The Area Service Committee (ASC) is a group of trusted servants that meets monthly with the express purpose of fulfilling the specific needs of NA groups in the Greater San Jose area. The ASC is comprised of three types of service positions: The Administrative Committee, the Sub-Committee Chairpersons, and the Group Service Representatives (GSRs). (For more information about GSRs, please refer to I.P. #2, "The Group.") The ASC promotes unity through the free expression of ideas and mutual aide. The Area Service Committee meets at 6:30PM on the fourth Wednesday of each month at Almaden Hills Methodist Church, 1200 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose. (In November and December, the ASC meets on the third Wednesday due to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.) Any member of the NA community is invited to attend the monthly ASC meeting. For more information, please send an e-mail to admin@sjna.org. |

Recovery in N.A. is more than life without drugs. The Events Coordinator organizes a variety of functions in which addicts can find fun and fellowship with others in recovery. Events provide a popular introduction into N.A. service as there are many things that can be done which require little clean time. Speaker meetings/dances, bowling nights, softball tournaments, pancake breakfasts and Unity Day are just some of the activities organized by the Events Coordinator. For more information, please send an e-mail to eventcoord@sjna.org. A great way to get in service is to plan an event. The GSJNA Event Handbook is an event guideline designed to allow individual fellowship members as well as groups and home groups to generate new ideas for events in the Greater San Jose Area and then plan and stage these events. Also for your information, the Event Coordinator Guidelines document is available for download. |

N.A's primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery. The purpose of the Public Information sub-committee is to insure that clear and accurate information about N.A. is available to the public. This helps insure an accurate perspective of recovery in N.A. and avoids self-promotion and personal grandiosity. Involvement in P.I. provides an excellent opportunity to learn our principles and help extend awareness of our fellowship. Carrying the message insures the growth of our members and the health of our fellowship. P.I. meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30PM at the Los Gatos Community Center 206 E. Main in Los Gatos. For more information, please send an e-mail to publicinfo@sjna.org. The Public Information Subcommittee is also responsible for the area's phoneline, which provides an opportunity for one addict to help another addict on a personal, one-to-one basis. By maintaining a 24-hour-a-day phone service, Narcotics Anonymous is always available to those in need. This service connects the experience, strength and hope of the fellowship with the still suffering addict. The phoneline also provides meeting times and locations. Addicts are always needed to be available on the other end of the phone when someone reaches out. The phoneline meeting meets at 7:00PM on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Los Gatos Community Center 206 E. Main in Los Gatos. For more information, please send an e-mail to publicinfo@sjna.org. |

The Hospitals and Institutions sub-committee carries the message of recovery to addicts who might not be able to attend regular meetings. Some places H&I takes meetings include hospitals, detox centers and jails. Encountering addicts in these settings can help provide a more realistic perspective, keeping our memory "green" and intensifying our gratitude. Sharing through H&I is a direct, personal form of service which reinforces both our commitment and our understanding of the program. H&I meets at 6:30PM on the first Wednesday of the month at 65 West Rincon Ave in Campbell. For more information, please send an e-mail to h_and_i@sjna.org. Working the Steps With Inmates Program If you are interested in sponsoring an addict that is incarcerated through the mail, please write to P.O. Box 23700, San Jose CA 95153 and give your name, address, telephone number and clean date. The H&I Correspondence Coordinator will assign you as a sponsor to an inmate who will then write to you in reference to working the steps. Requirements for the Working the Steps with Inmates Program:

Personal recovery depends on N.A. unity. One way we insure a unified message is through our use of fellowship-approved literature. The Literature sub-committee insures that an ample supply of the texts, information pamphlets, posters and other N.A. related items that express our message are always available to NA groups in the San Jose Area. The committee meets at 5:30PM on the fourth Wednesday of the month at Almaden Hills Methodist Church, 1200 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose. For more information, please send an e-mail to literature@sjna.org. Literature Order Forms: Click here for an English order form Click here for a Spanish order form |
